Instead of just vacating a walkway, the Kosciusko County commissioners approved a plan agreeable to all.
James Metze petitioned the commissioners to vacate a 5-foot wide, 158-foot long platted walkway that runs down the middle of two lots he owns at Ridinger Lake in Siler's addition.
According to Matt Sandy, Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission assistant planner, the walkway is designated as public for anyone to use as an access to the lake.
Sandy said the plan commission's recommendation is to ask the petitioner if the county vacates the walkway, if Metze will relocate the walkway on one side or another of his properties to allow for public access to the lake.
Metze's representative said that while they would like approval of the vacation as presented, they could accept relocating the walkway.
There were no remonstrators to the petition. Commissioner Avis Gunter made a motion to "vacate the walkway when a new one is established on either side of the lots." The motion was approved.
In other business, the commissioners:
Awarded the bids for two highway department trucks to Norris Truck Service. The Bridge 290 (Venetian Way, Syracuse) improvement project bid was awarded to Primco for a base bid of $131,272.08 and the Bridge 286 (CR 100S) bid was handed to Kelcon for a base bid of $115,000.
Due to the county unable to acquire an easement for the Bridge 290 improvement project through negotiations with a property owner, the commissioners approved a condemnation to acquire the easement.
Approved Gale and Gordon Nash's petition to rezone approximately 80 acres from agricultural to residential. The property is on the south side of Rozella Road, east of Ferguson Road.
