Kosciusko County Commissioners met this morning and moved closer to building the county’s next roundabout.
In November, the first of two roundabouts along Old 30W was opened at Fox Farm Road.
The second, at Zimmer Road, is moving toward construction.
In February, the commissioners voted to keep access to Old 30 open during the Zimmer Road roundabout construction.
Today, they voted to award the bid for the project to E & B Paving, out of Anderson, with the low bid.
The bid was $238,899 under the engineer’s estimate. The total bid was $2,262,701.50.
Utilities are being moved at the location this week. After that construction will begin and take several months.
While the road will remain open, drivers may have to wait on flagmen at times.
A consulting contract with LPA Consulting for the project also was approved.
While it wasn’t discussed during the commissioners meeting, Kosciusko County is getting more clarity on what will become of the $2.5 million its slated to receive from the state.
The county expects to receive $2.5 million into its bank account as early as today.
The state announced last week finding $205 million after a programming error was found by the state’s department of revenue.
In December, the state discovered $320 million.
The county will distribute $2.5 million to cities, towns and itself with County Option Income Tax or Economic Development Income Tax.
The county expects to have about approximately $900,000 in COIT and $700,000 in EDIT funds.
At that point, the county council has to budget, then appropriate, those funds as needed.
The COIT funds will go into the county’s general fund while EDIT funds will go into the county’s EDIT fund.
County auditor Marsha McSherry said 2012 distributions will be given to the county’s taxing units on a monthly basis, with interest included.
