Commissioners OK Several Rezoning Requests

Posted
The county commissioners approved several road vacations and rezoning requests during their meeting Tuesday morning.

A request to vacate a section of undeveloped road on Shirey Drive near Palestine Lake in Harrison Township was approved.

The owner, Dr. Vladimir Murzin, requested the undeveloped road be vacated because he owns all the land surrounding it and people have been using it to access the lake.

Since Murzin owns all the land to the lake there is no question of whether the public has the right to access it.

The commissioners denied vacating CR 360S in Washington Township. The road runs past Pierceton Cemetery.

After some debate and a complaint by a neighbor, the commissioners voted against the road vacation due to the density of traffic that uses the county road.

The commissioners also rezoned four tracts of land.

Larry Hoffer's request to move 17.6 acres of land from residential to agricultural in Tippecanoe Township was approved.

Robert Williamson was granted a request to rezone 5.8 acres from industrial II to agricultural.

Tarah and Samuel Weaver were allowed to rezone their home, which is 1.75 acres on commercial to residential.

Scott and Sara Miller were allowed to rezone 5.7 acres from agricultural to residential.

Bob Weaver, county health department, was given permission to use grant money to purchase a new vehicle for the department. The grant money and vehicle had already been accounted for in the 2010 budget.

Kosciusko County Recorder Deb Wright presented information on a new electronic system called Simplifile. It would allow people looking to do things like mortgages online. The cost would be on the user and would be no cost to the county.

Wright said eventually the system could do deeds and transfers.

Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden reminded the commissioners that repair on a bridge just south of Milford will be up for bid Dec. 7.

Tilden also will present a five-year plan for equipment replacement at the commissioners' next meeting.

The commissioners next meeting is Nov. 9 at 9 a.m.
