Commissioners OK 900W Bridge Repair

Posted

Dennis Pletcher, supervisor of the Kosciusko County Highway Department, came before the board of Kosciusko County Commissioners to discuss repair costs for a bridge on CR 900W, between CRs 900N and 1050N.

Pletcher reported the bridge needs road and culvert repair and estimated the total costs to be $40,000.

The board approved Pletcher's request and allowed him to begin reconstruction.

"It is always better to catch something before it falls into the river," commissioner Ron Truex said.

The bridge repair will take three to four weeks before final pavement can be applied and should begin no later than Friday.

Pletcher also received approval on requests for stop signs at the intersection of CRs 625W and 650N and in three areas along CR 350N. "No Trucks" signs also will be posted facing north and south at the intersection of CR 200S and Old 15.

The board approved a vacation of public right of way request from Steve Hay on property in Turkey Creek Township. The 11-foot right of way, once part of the former Eli Lilly Road, runs through houses and barns in the area. No adjacent neighbors opposed the request.

"We need to expedite the entire right of way instead of doing this one lot at a time," Truex said.

Larry Long, an engineer representing Ray Williamson, presented a request to the board to rezone property in Prairie Township from agricultural to residential.

The board approved the rezoning, allowing Williamson to construct a 14-lot subdivision on property adjacent to his farm.

The board also:

• approved a revised agreement regarding construction plans to the Gatke site, allowing Grace College minor changes in mediation;

• heard reports from Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine on the conditions and efficiency of the county jailing facilities;

• heard reports on fair ballots based on Republican and Democratic punch cards used at the county fair.

Kosciusko County commissioners are Truex, Avis Gunter and Brad Jackson.
