The Kosciusko County Commissioners set in motion a way for people to avoid having areas in front of their home sprayed for weeds.
The commissioners met Tuesday morning and discussed a complaint lodged by a resident in Commissioner Bob Conley's southern district. While the resident wasn't at the meeting to make a public comment, the commissioners decided to initiate a policy where residents can purchase "No spraying" signs. The county originally hired a company to spray for weeds along right-of-ways in the county.
Conley said that the commissioners are still working on the initiative but when it comes to the point where residents can purchase those signs through the county highway department, it's the person's responsibility to take care of troublesome growth. Cynthia Crump, of the United States Census Bureau, has been working with Conley to create an educational program about the census.
The commissioners signed a declaration to set that program in motion.
Conley said that a committee will be set up with a representative of each community in the county to implement the program to different towns. "We want to promote the census and let people know it's their obligation as a citizen to be counted," said Conley.
The commmissioners also noted that the Lakeland Regional Sewer District will hold a meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. in the North Webster Community Center to discuss the possibility of creating a county-wide sewer district.
The commissioners will next meet Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. at the old courthouse.
