Kosciusko County Commissioners approved the $20,000 purchase of software for setting county employee schedules this morning. They approved the purchase at the recommendation of county auditor Marsha McSherry, who noted the county sheriff’s department has used the same software for a while. And in comparison the sheriff also paid much more, closer to $100,00, for consulting, installation and training, due to having a higher number of employees, she noted. “Right now it’s costing us the same amount of money to do it by hand,” Commissioner Ron Truex remarked ahead of the vote, also noting that the software will make it easier to answer questions about employee hours or scheduling. “We could spend this amount of money every year to not do it, or buy it once.” Commissioners also accepted a $48,000 District 2 grant for incident management team training, and a $9,268 grant to help the sheriff’s department maintain connectivity with squad car computers, both at the request of Emergency Management Director Ed Rock. Rock also said the state is still trying to get a presidential declaration after the November storms that spawned three tornadoes, and is urging anyone who hasn’t declared damages yet to do so through www.in.gov/dhs Also during the meeting, commissioners approved the 2014 contract with Miner and Lemon LLP and the inter-local agreements with the Kosciusko County Convention, Recreation and Visitors Commission and the Solid Waste District.
