The reason Washington does not make command decisions when big problems arise is simple.The transnational corporations have become so large and powerful they influence every move the government makes. Politicians absolutely owe their souls to transnational corporations.
Sherman anti-trust laws have not been used to punish crooked corporations since Ronald Reagan was president. The Glass Steagall law was dumped that protected bank depositors from casino style banking that just took the taxpayers of trillions. Anybody in jail yet? Get rid of NAFTA and erect tariffs.
Why do we need offshore oil? Because of a mounting population problem. Millions are coming in and almost all drive a car. You don't need more oil, just less people.
