Comedy & Cocktails Starring Henry Phillips Takes WWT Stage

Posted
For the past several years, the Wagon Wheel Theatre has made a tradition of making comedy acts a part of their concert offerings.

For folks in the Warsaw area, this is a special treat not having to drive to Fort Wayne or South Bend where the area's comedy clubs are located.

This year's headliner is Henry Phillips, a regular comic on the Bob and Tom Radio Show.

The show will open with local comic Joe Shroeder.

Ask Schroeder where he gets his material and he'll reply, "I live my material."

As one of the comics in the Midwest, his show is a candid discussion on such topics as sex, dating, relationships and life in general. With his own brand of humor, he has entertained audiences of a thousand or more.

After beginning his career at open mic nights, he moved back to his hometown of Warsaw to continue his study of the "Science of Comedy." He quickly became a favorite at clubs and colleges throughout the Midwest, honing his craft while sharing the stage with comedy veterans Kevin Pollack, Tom Simmons, Jim Florentine, Dave Landau and Jon Reep. A regular at the Mishawaka Funnybone, Schroeder has also brought his energy and wit to the Tennessee Theatre, The Wagon Wheel Theatre, The Detroit International Comedy Festival, and is currently a contributing writer to Esquire magazine.

With movies "Bluegrass Run" and "Secret Lincoln"due out in 2010, be sure not to miss this rising star when you find him at a venue near you.

Phillips has been seen performing his twisted songs and stories on Comedy Central, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and NBC's "Late Friday". He can also be heard regularly on the Bob and Tom Show, performing such songs as "The Guitar Pill" and "She's Talking Again".

His nationally released CDs, fusing mellow folk-rock ballads with psychopathic lyrics, have earned him mention in Billboard magazine's "Critic's Choice", as well as acclaim from the king of novelty music himself, Dr. Demento, who referred to Phillips as "The funniest young singer-songwriter to come our way in quite a while."

Also, his biographical comedy film "Punching the Clown", directed by Greg Viens, received the audience award at Slamdance film festival 2009, and is continuing a successful run on the festival circuit.
