Columbia City Man Gets 3 Years For Dealing

Posted
A Columbia City man was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday for dealing morphine pills.

Shawn R. Daniels, 38, appeared in front of Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Mike Reed and was sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for a Level 4 felony conviction for dealing in a narcotic drug. Reed also referred Daniels for participation in the Recovery While Incarcerated program, which upon successful completion could potentially have Reed modify Daniels’ sentence.

According to court papers in this case, on Dec. 3, 2019, an Indiana State Police trooper pulled over a vehicle for having a faulty tail light.

Daniels was a passenger in that vehicle, where police located 11.56 grams of morphine pills, along with methamphetamine.

When police spoke with Daniels, Daniels told police the pills weren’t his, but he was helping sell them and getting a cut of the money from the drug deals.

Daniels had originally been charged with dealing in a narcotic drug as a Level 2 felony; along with possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 4 felony; and possession of methamphetamine as a Level 6 felony. Those charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
