Columbia City Lands Airbag Plant, 250 Jobs

COLUMBIA CITY - Autoliv ASP Inc, a worldwide leader in automotive safety, is completing negotiations to build a new $14 million plant in Columbia City. Autoliv will initially hire 49 workers for the new facility, and plans to hire 250-300 workers within the next three to five years.

Autoliv will manufacture a one-piece steering wheel/airbag component at its new facility, which will be built in Park 30 Business Center on U.S. 30 between Columbia City and Fort Wayne.

According to Indiana's Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan, Autoliv will receive a $25,000 Training 2000 grant from the Indiana Department of Commerce. Whitley County will receive a $59,500 Industrial Development grant to make improvements to CR 500E to help serve the facility.
