GOSHEN - Grace College's men's and women's track teams competed in the Goshen Track and Field Invitational Saturday, with the men finishing second and the women coming in third.

Jerid Stoffel led the Grace men with a first-place time of 4:08.62 in the 1500-meter run. Stoffel's time set a new Eigsti Field record and qualified him for the NCCAA national championships.

Dennis Simmons also qualified for nationals with a winning time of :51.12 in the 400. He also placed third in the 200.

Freshman Barry Meisel placed in five events for Grace, taking second in the long jump and high jump, third in the 100 and fifth in both the 200 and triple jump. His performances in the long jump and high jump qualified him for nationals.

Michael Schaadt qualified for two events at nationals, placing second in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the high jump.

Other Lancers to qualifiy for the national meet include Mike Chavez (javelin), Brian Harshman (shot put) and David Robertson (400 hurdles).

On the women's side, Andria Parker took a first in the javelin, a fifth in the hammer and sixth in both the discus and shot put for the Lancers. Parker's throw in the javelin qualified her for the NCCAA national meet.

Andrea Hostetler placed first in the 400 with time of 1:06.92, good enough to set a new Eigisti Field record and qualify her for the national meet. Hostetler also qualified for the national meet in the 100 hurdles.

Also qualifying for the national meet for the Lancers were Tonya Christl in the pole vault and Patricia Wood in the triple jump.

Chrissy Moyer placed third in the 5000-meter run, with her time of 20:25.26 good enough for a new school record, breaking her own record by five seconds.

The women's 3200 relay team placed first with a time of 10:40.00

Grace's men's and women's teams will be in action again April 7 at Anderson.

Saturday

Manchester College's softball team split a doubleheader Saturday with Dominican University. The Spartans won the first game 3-1, but fell 2-1 in the second game. Nicolete Gasior improved her record on the mound to 4-3 with a win and nine strikeouts in the first game. In the second game, Manchester trailed 2-0 going into the seventh, where the Spartans put one run on the board. Manchester is now 4-10 on the season and will host Kalamazoo Tuesday.

Saturday in North Manchester

Manchester College's baseball team hosted Thomas More Saturday in a doubleheader. The Spartans lost the opener 4-0, but came back and picked up a 5-1 win in the second game. In the win, the Spartans tied the game at one in the second before scoring four in the third. Manchester is now 7-11, while Thomas More falls to 9-10.
