WINONA LAKE -ÊThe Grace College women's basketball team got its third Mid-Central Conference win of the season over Indiana Wesleyan 59-56 Saturday.

Grace was down 29-20 at the half, but the Lancers made a comeback in the second half to get the win.

Danielle Mowery led the Lancers with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Tracie Mezera added 17 points.

Grace is 9-18 on the season and 3-9 in MCC play, while Indian Wesleyan falls to 9-21 and 2-10 in the MCC

Saturday in North Manchester

The Manchester College women's basketball team dropped a 72-56 contest to visiting Hanover College Saturday.

Sam Wideman led Manchester with 18 points and eight rebounds. Missy Hoppe comtributed 15 point and four rebounds.

Hanover had four players in double figures.

The loss drops Manchester to 2-20 on the year, 1-10 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Manchester hosts St. Mary's of the Woods Wednesday at 7 p.m.

MANCHESTER 57, HANOVER 46

The Manchester College men's basketball team clinched a share of the regular season Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship season by defeating Hanover College 57-46. Both Manchester and Hanover went into the contest tied for first place in the conference standings with a 6-4 record.

Manchester's Yul Lee led all scorers with 19 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds. Marc Patterson added 14 points and six rebounds, while Jeremy Neely had nine points and four steals for the Spartans in the final home game of the regular season.

Manchester will play Anderson Saturday in the final game of the regular season.

The Grace College men's basketball team traveled to Marion to play Indiana Wesleyan and fell 85-80 Saturday.

The Lancers outscored Indiana Wesleyan 43-41 in the second half but could not over come the seven-point deficit built in the first half.

Matt Abernethy led the Lancers with 19 points, while Ben Tonagel added 18. Joe Saunders had 17 and Dan Scharlach tossed in 10 for Grace.

TRACK AND FIELD

Saturday in Huntington

Three school records were set Saturday when the Grace College track and field team traveled to Huntington College for the Huntington Invitational.

Becky Green won the women's 55 hurdles with a school record time of 9.49 seconds. The old record of 9.51 was set by Andrea Hostetler in 1999.

Brian Harshman bettered his own school record in the men's weight throw. His toss of 40-feet tops his own mark by one foot. His toss was good wnough for second place and qualifies him for the NCCAA Championships. Harshman also placed third in the shot put and qualified for the NCCAA championships with a put of 42-3.

David Roberston lowered the 55 hurdles record by three-tenths of a second. His time of 8.74 seconds won in first place. Robertson also won the 400 with a time of 54.31.

Tonya Christl scored a pair of second-place finishes in the pole vault and the 400m. Andrea Hostetler also placed second in a pair of events, the 55 hurdles and the 300.

Patricia Wood placed second in the triple jump and third in the long jump.

The Lancers will return to action Saturday at DePauw University at 11:30 a.m.

Saturday in Parkside, Wisconsin

Two school records were established at the University of Wisconsin. The meet was dominated by NCAA Division II schools, and Grace College was the smallest school present.

The men's 3200 relay team defeated the nearest rival by more than four seconds, while establishing a school record. Their time of 8:03.63 bettered the old school mark of 8:09.55 set earlier this season. Their time currently ranks them eighth in the nation. Top splits in the relay were turned in by Paul Paschal (1:58.9) and Daniel Njenga (1:56.9).

Njenga won the mile with a time of 4:19.39. Njenga is currently ranked 10th in the nation and is the No. 1 freshman miler in the nation.

Michael Schaadt established a school record in the 200 hurdles. His time of 27.56 seconds was good enough for eighth place and qualified him for the NCCAA championships. Schaadt also placed fifth in the 400. His time of 52.82 secondsqualifies him for the NCCAA national championships.

Jerid Stoffel placed seventh in the mile with a time of 4:31.42. His time qualifies him for the NCCAA national championships.
