WINONA LAKE -ÊIn both baseball games between Grace and Bethel Thursday, the team holding a late lead ended up losing.

In the opener, Grace led 4-3 in the seventh before losing 6-5 and in game two, Bethel led 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth before falling 10-6.

In game one, Thomas Boyd hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Ryan Strum hit one in the sixth to give the Lancers a 4-3 advantage. But in the top of the seventh, a walk, a hit batter and a pair of doubles contributed to three Bethel runs. Grace scored one in the bottom of the seventh and had the tie run at third, but couldn't send the game to extra innings.

In game two, Bethel walked eight batters in the first two innings as the Lancers put together three runs. But the Lancer bats never got going until a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Cox led off the inning to score seven runs. Mike Presley pitched a complete game, finishing Bethel in order in the seventh.

Bethel is now 20-16 overall and 10-6 in the MCC. Grace (9-19, 4-14 MCC) will host Huntington Saturday at 1 p.m.
