GOSHEN - The Grace College Lancers baseball team won its fourth and fifth straight games Thursday, beating Goshen 11-7 and 10-0. The wins up Grace's record to 15-23. The last time Grace won as many as 15 games was 1981, when the Lancers finished 16-15.
Holding a 7-6 lead in the first game, Grace pulled away with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. Thom Newhard went 3 for 4 and scored two runs.
Dustin Christean (5-4) dealt a two-hit shutout in the second game. Christean is 3-1 in his last four starts, all complete games. He's allowed just six earned runs in those four starts.
Mike Cox broke a Grace hitting record. Cox entered with 145 career hits, one short of the school record. He went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the second game to break the record.
Grace, 10-18 in the MCC, hosts St. Francis at 1 p.m. Saturday.
