BLOOMINGTON - Grace College's men's cross country team dominated the NAIA field at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships Friday, placing sixth overall and second among small school teams.

The Lancers, ranked 16th in the latest NAIA poll, defeated No. 10 Taylor by 90 points and No. 32 Taylor by 226 points. Seven Mid-Central Conference schools competed in the event, and Grace defeated them all.

The only teams to finish ahead of Grace were Indiana University, Ball State, Purdue, Indiana State and the Univeristy of Indianapolis. Indianapolis, which runs in NCAA Division II, was the only small school to beat Grace. The Lancers topped five Division I schools.

Freshman Daniel Jjenga finished ninth overall for the Lancers with a time of 25:43. Junior Tim Sprankle ended 13th with a time of 26:49, while freshman Jerid Stoffel was 25th with his time of 27:15. Sophomore Tim Robertson and freshman Michael Kamami were 27th and 32nd, respectively.

Grace will compete Saturday at the Friendship Invitational in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Trinity International snapped Grace College's four-game winning streak Saturday, topping the Lancers 3-0. Trinity scored twice in the first 12 minutes of action. The Lancers are 4-2 overall and will host Mid-Central Conference rival Marian Tuesday. Grace is ranked No. 5 in NAIA Region VIII.

Grace College's women's soccer team was tied with Trinity International at halftime Saturday, but visiting Trinity International scored three times in the second half to top the Lanchers 3-1. Grace's lone goal was scored by Laurie McClure. Katy Wilkerson assisted on the play. Grace is 1-5 on the season and will host Franklin Tuesday, attempting to snap a five-game skid.

Grace College's volleyball team competed in the Olivet Nazarene Tournament Saturday and finished with a 1-2 record. The Lancers fell to St. Xavier and St. Ambrose but defeated Judson. Grace is 4-9 on the season and will open conference play Tuesday at Taylor.

Manchester College's football team snapped a nine-game losing streak Saturday with a 17-14 win at Olivet. The loss was Olivet's 15th consecutive. Manchester High School graduate David Barrett led the Spartans on the ground with 58 yards on 20 attempts. Manchester triggerman Jody Weldy was 9 of 22 through the air for 127 yards and a score. Manchester is 1-1 on the year and will host Earlham Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
