WINONA LAKE -ÊOn Senior Night at Grace College, the women's basketball team had a tough task against the NAIA's No. 1 team in the country, the St. Francis Cougars. St. Francis has been ranked No.1 all season long with just one blemish, a one-point loss to NCAA Div. II Rollins College.
The Lancers gave St. Francis everything it could handle, but the Cougars came away with a 68-63 victory to finish Mid-Central Conference play with a perfect 14-0 record.
Tied at 15-15 in the first half, Grace went on a 9-0 run and led 26-17 with 2:18 to play in the opening half. However, St. Francis scored the final nine points of the half to tie the game at the break.
The Cougars added to that 9-0 run in the second half by scoring the first 11 points to take a 37-26 advantage. Grace would not go though. Trailing 64-52 with 3:44 to play, the Lancers went on an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to three points at 66-63 with 28 seconds left. However, St. Francis made its free throws to hold on for the win.
Danielle Mowery led Grace with 18 points and eight rebounds while Tracey Mantegna had 17 points and 10 boards.
Manchester High School graduate Megan Eckert played over 17 minutes in the game and netted eight points and three rebounds and one assist.
St. Francis ends regular season play with a record of 26-1 overall and 14-0 in the MCC. Grace ends the season 5-22 and 2-12 in the MCC. The two teams will play in the first round of the conference tournament Tuesday at St. Francis. The Cougars are seeded first, while the Lancers are eighth.

The Manchester College women's basketball team traveled to Anderson University Saturday and came home with a 70-59 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory.
The Spartans held a 33-30 lead at the half and outscored the Ravens 37-29 in the final quarter of play to earn the 11-point win.
Sara Irish led the Spartans with 27 point and six rebounds, while Linda Cash added 17 points for Manchester.
Manchester is now 7-15 overall,and Anderson falls to 6-16.

The University of Saint Francis defeated Grace College 88-58 to earn its first outright Mid-Central Conference title in school history.
Saint Francis opened the first half with a 16-4 run and took a 53-26 lead at halftime. Saint Francis' defense hald Grace to just 35 percent (21-of-59) shooting in the game.
Lawrence Burnett and BenTonagel added 16 points each, while Dan Scharlach added 10.
Saint Francis improves to 28-4 and 14-0 in the MCC, while Grace falls to 10-22 and 1-13 MCC.
