MISHAWAKA - The Grace College women's basketball team traveled to Mishawaka for a Mid-Central Conference game against NAIA Division II No. 13 Bethel Wednesday and came away with a 71-56 loss.

Bethel led 36-26 at the half and outscored the Lancers 35-30 in the second half to pick up the win. Grace had six more turnovers, 18-12, and was outrebounded 32-26. The Lancers, however, stayed in the game by shooting 46 percent from the field and making 5 of 9 three-pointers.

Nikki Heaphy led Grace with 12 points off the bench, while Sidney Bollier and Tracie Mezera chipped in with 11 each.

Bethel was led in the scoring column by NorthWood graduate A.J. Whitehead's 23 points. Whitehead was 7 of 11 from the field and 7 of 8 from the charity stripe and pulled down eight rebounds.

Grace is 8-15 overall and 2-7 in the MCC, while Bethel improves to 21-5 and 8-1.

Manchester College's women's basketball team fell 79-73 to visiting Franklin Wednesday in HCAC action. Manchester shot 60 percent from the floor in the first half and led 45-39 early in the second, but a 10-2 run midway through the second half was key for Franklin. Manchester's Missy Hoppe scored a lay-up to give the Spartans a three-point lead with just under two minutes to play, but a field goal and a three-pointer by Sherry Martin gave Franklin the lead again. Suzie Thompson sunk a pair of free throws to ice the game for the Grizzlies. Hoppe led Manchester with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Bridget Sanders added 13. Triton graduate Melissa Nifong chipped in with 12, while Warsaw graduate Sam Wideman added 10. Manchester falls to 2-17 overall and 1-7 in the HCAC and travels to Defiance Saturday.

Manchester College's men's basketball team dropped to 13-6 overall and 4-4 in the HCAC with a 72-62 loss at Franklin Wednesday. Manchester shot just 10 of 35 in the first half and trailed 38-24 at the break. Despite a 22-4 run by the host Grizzlies, Manchester cut the lead to six with four minutes to play but never got closer. Chris Enyeart led Manchester with 12 points, while Mark Patterson and Rex Reimer scored 11 each. Manchester hosts HCAC leader Defiance Saturday.
