NORTH MANCHESTER -ÊThe Manchester College softball team improved to 11-23 on the season after picking up a pair of wins over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Franklin College Saturday.

In game one, the Spartans scattered three runs and held the Grizzlies scoreless to get the 3-0 win. Kelly Phelps led the Manchester squad with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

In game two, Franklin scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead, but the Spartans answered in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs of their own. Manchester scored one more run in the sixth inning to get the 5-3 win.

Manchester competes in the HCAC Tournament at Hanover College Friday and Saturday.

Junior pitcher Dustin Christean threw a no-hitter Friday as the Grace College baseball team split with Indiana Wesleyan. The Lancers lost the opener 7-2 but won game two 13-3 behind 15 hits and solid pitching. In the win, Christean struck out seven batters but walked eight. Those walks, along with four errors, cost him a shutout. Grace (11-23, 6-18 MCC) will play Goshen at home Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Saturday in Upland

The Grace College men's track and field team ended fourth at the Mid-Central Conference Championships this weekend, while the women finished sixth overall. The Lancers won the conference championship in two events. The men scored 113.5 team points to end in the top half, while the women scored 73.5.In women's action, Andrea Hostetler was the conference champion in the 400 hurdles, running a 1:05.50 to win by more than a full second. The women's 1600 relay team also won the MCC title, running a 4:05.37.
