CEDARVILLE, OHIO - Defending NCCAA national champion Heritage Christian knocked the Grace College volleyball team out of the NCCAA national tournament Saturday. Heritage Christian topped the Lancers 15-8, 15-10, 15-5 in the semifinal round.
Kate Millen led Grace with 19 kills, while Tricia Doyle added 10 kills and 10 digs. Jessica Zaugg had 30 assists for the Lancers.
Grace ends the tournament with its best finish since winning the national championship in 1995. The Lancers moved to 25-17 on the season.
Grace will host the Mid-Central Conference tournament this week. The top-seeded Lancers will play eighth-seeded Huntington Thursday at 7:30 p.m. If Grace wins, it will host the semifinals Saturday morning and the championship match Saturday evening.

Leading 9-3 after one quarter of play Saturday, Hanover's football team blew its game with visiting Manchester wide open by scoring 27 points in the second and third quarters. Hanover routed the Spartans 43-3. Hanover pounded 28 first downs, while Manchester had 14. In total offense, Hanover outgained Manchester 465-217. Manchester High School graduate David Barrett led the Spartans on the ground with 21 carries for 60 yards. NorthWood graduate Amos Frye had 12 tackles for the Manchester defense, while Josh Cole, a Wawasee graduate, had seven tackles.

With a 89-74 loss to Union College at the McKendree Classic Saturday, Grace College's women's basketball team is 0-2 on the season. The Lancers trailed 27-13 midway through the first half, but trailed 39-37 at the break. Union outscored Grace 50-37 in the second half. Grace made good on 23 of 28 free throws, but Union connected on 16 of 28 three-point goals. Freshman Tracy Mezera scored 18 points for Grace, while Danielle Mowery added 16. Grace will host Judson Friday at 3 p.m.

Grace places second in MCC Tourney

The Grace College men's and women's cross country team competed in the Mid-Central Conference meet Saturday, with the men finishing second with a score of 66, and the women finishing seventh with a 165. Indiana Wesleyan won the men's race with a score of 61, while the Indiana Wesleyan women's team won with a score of 17. Grace's men's team was led by Daniel Njenga's third-place time of 25:23. Chrissy Moyer led the Grace women with her 24th-place time of 20:15. Grace will compete in the NCCAA National Championships Saturday at Cedarville College.
