WINONA LAKE -ÊThe Grace College women's basketball team struggled at the free throw line Saturday, making just 11 of 26, and John Brown used that opening for a 76-57 win over the Lancers.

Grace made just two of its first 15 free throws, but connected on 9 of 11 down the stretch. By that point, John Brown had the game well in hand.

Nikki Heaphy led Grace with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Danielle Mowery added 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Tracie Mezera tossed in 11 points.

Warsaw graduate Katie Elliott scored 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 shooting from the free throw line for John Brown.

John Brown improves to 8-5 overall, while the Lancers fall to 6-8. Grace will close out the first semester of play at IPFW Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Manchester College women's basketball team hosted Alma College and fell 76-46 Saturday afternoon. The Spartans fell behind 35-25 in the first half and then Alma outscored them 41-21 in the second half of play.

Missy Hoppe led the Manchester squad with 17 points, while no other Spartan scored more than six points on the day. Triton graduate Missy Nifong pulled down five rebounds to lead the Spartans.

Manchester is 1-7, while Alma improves to 3-4.
