WINONA LAKE - The Grace College women's soccer team allowed two goals in the first seven minutes of action, losing to Calumet College of St. Joseph 3-1 Wednesday.
With a strong wind helping Calumet's cause in the opening half, Tara Linzy ripped a shot just 26 seconds into the action that put the Crimson Wave quickly ahead 1-0. Joell Dixon added a goal six minutes later that put a shell-shocked Grace team behind 2-0.
The Lady Lancers settled down and played better the rest of the half, finally breaking through on a Kristine Kuhl goal with two minutes remaining in the opening session to make the score 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Grace failed to capitalize on a number of opportunities to tie the game, and Calumet's Megan Grzanka scored 14 minutes into the period to make the final score 3-1.
Calumet had an 11-7 shots on goal advantage for the game. Grace keeper Jen Howard made eight saves, while Calumet keeper Kelly Davis had six saves.
Grace (2-2) will attempt to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday at home against Cornerstone beginning at 1 p.m.
