FRANKLIN - Poor shooting from the field in the second half hurt the Grace College men's basketball team as it lost to Eureka College 73-68 in Friday's first round of the Franklin Tournament.

After hitting 14 of 26 field goals (54 percent) in the first half, Grace hit but 10 of 30 field goals (33 percent) in the second half. Grace led 35-33 at halftime, but Eureka shot 47 percent from the field (16 of 34) in the second half and outscored the Lancers 40-33.

Eureka had balanced scoring as four players hit double figures. Nick Dohman scored 19, Craig Negangard 14, Erik Walton 12 and David McMillen 12. Two players did most of the scoring for Grace. Matt Abernethy led with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Dan Scharlach added 14 points.

Grace, 6-7, plays the loser of the Franklin-Maranatha game in today's consolation game.
