College Connection

Several local high school athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level. Following is a summary of how some of them fared.

Baseball

Two local high school graduates played for Tri-State's baseball team, which finished the year 16-23-1. Warsaw graduate Jon Walmer, a freshman, played in 15 games. He had 12 hits and four RBIs and batted .316. Wawasee graduate Brian Milligan, a freshman, played in 29 games. He had 16 hits, including one home run, two doubles and a triple. He hit .219 with seven RBIs.

Softball

1997 Tippecanoe Valley graduate Emily Cripe earned her third varsity letter in softball at Grinell College (Iowa). Cripe, who graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in theatre, started 12 games at first base. After a 19-14 season in 2000, Grinnell dropped to 5-22-1 in 2001. Cripe, a native of Atwood, was one of three seniors on the team.
