A witnesses says a driver choking on coffee is what caused a truck to run into a building Monday around 9:20 a.m.
Justin Raymer, 35, Ontario Lane, Warsaw, was driving his truck south on North Parker Street to Lake City Highway.
Raymer’s truck plowed into the Smokes for Less cigarette shop, 2421 E. Center St., causing the building to collapse on a nearby van, according to a report from the Warsaw Police Department.
Johnathan Vickers, 21, Columbia Street, Warsaw, a passenger in Raymer’s truck, said Raymer began to choke on coffee and then ran off the road into the building.
Raymer was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital with a back injury.
Vickers complained of pain to his neck, shoulder and left knee. Vickers refused treatment at the scene, but later went to a hospital for treatment.
Raymer’s truck also struck a mailbox owned by an adjacent hair salon.
