Closed Door Helps Keep Fire Contained

Closed Door Helps Keep Fire ContainedStudies show that closing doors can help save lives in the event of a fire, according to Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Public Information Officer Max Kinsey.

In a house fire at 505 Oak Glen Drive, Warsaw, early Sunday morning, the residents had closed the door between their garage and residence and it kept the fire back. Saturday’s fire started in the garage.

“We’re trying to get people to close doors when they go to bed,” Kinsey said.

The fire department was called to the scene at 4:09 a.m. Sunday and remained on scene for about three hours, with 11 firefighters on scene. Winona Lake and Plain Township fire departments were called to assist.

County records indicate the home is owned by M. Magdalena and Gamaliel Paredes.

No injuries were reported, but damage was estimated at approximately $45,000 including the property and contents.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation this morning.
