NORTH MANCHESTER - Cleon D. Overmyer, 85, of North Manchester, died at 2:35 p.m. April 30, 2009, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born June 7, 1923, in Leiters Ford, to William McKinley and Grace Johnson Overmyer. On June 1, 1944, he married Iris Virginia Blackwell, who died Sept. 9, 1994.

He was a livestock farmer; co-owner of Laketon Elevator with his father; and later worked at United Telephone Co., Warsaw. He was a World War II U.S. Coast Guard veteran and attended Akron United Methodist Church. He was a 1941 Laketon High School graduate, where he was senior class president and played on the basketball team. He was youth baseball coach in the North Manchester and Laketon area for many years.

Surviving are two sons, Michael (and spouse Peggy) Overmyer, Warsaw, and Mitchell (and spouse Kendall) Overmyer, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mona (and spouse Richard) Shepherd, Laketon; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with pastors Duane Cragun and Karen Ottjes officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
