Clemens Not Seeking Re-Election To City Council

Warsaw 3rd district city councilman George Clemens announced he will not seek re-election.

Chosen by a caucus in 2000 to replace Paul Siebenmorgen, Clemens was then re-elected to four-year terms in 2003 and again in 2007.

He has served on the Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission, Warsaw Community Development Corp., Kosciusko County Solid Waste District Board and the Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory Board.

He will remain on the council until Dec. 31, and also will serve on the city's plan commission this year.

Clemens said, in a statement sent to the Times-Union, "It has been my privilege and pleasure to give back to this great community and to serve on city council. I would like to thank all the people who have supported and voted for me over the years.

"I have enjoyed working with each and every one of the men and women on Warsaw's City Council, Mayor Wiggins and city employees."

Clemens said one of his main regrets in not seeking another term is that he will miss serving during what he hopes to be his friend Joe Thallemer's administration as mayor.

"I cannot imagine a better candidate for mayor of Warsaw. He has the temperament, work ethic and the skill set to be a great mayor and representative for Warsaw's citizens," Clemens said.
