CLAYPOOL - Renovations to Claypool's water system are almost complete after nearly a year of work.
During Claypool Town Council's meeting Monday night, the board discussed the payment of bills received for the most recent projects.
New storm drains, water mains and a chain link fence around the wastewater treatment ponds are just a few of the projects that have been completed over the past year. The money for these renovations came from multiple grants, including a $1 million grant earmarked for storm water-related projects.
The largest projects are finished, and the final touches will be complete by the end of the year.
"Hopefully, all of it should be done before the snow falls," Water Utility Superintendent Gene Warner said after Monday's meeting.
During the renovations, approximately 20 large trees were removed from roadsides. Forty-seven small trees will be planted in their place, and those trees are expected to be delivered within the week.
The board also approved fourth-quarter checks to be paid to the board Dec. 3.
Claypool resident Doris Bloom requested the board look into adding street lights to the darker areas of town, including the west end of North Street.
The next regular meeting will be Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
Board members are Donald Miller, Larry Neher and David Dills.
