CLAYPOOL – The town has several options for an abandoned property it could soon take possession of, council heard Monday. Town attorney Tom Earhart said he was approached by Kosciusko County Administrator Ron Robinson about the abandoned property at 411 S. Graceland Ave. Earhart said Claypool could have the deed after a survey and legal description of the property are finished. Connie Morgan, town clerk-treasurer, said the county health department condemned the property but decided to put its fate in Claypool’s hands. She said it shouldn’t take much to demolish the building, and observed that the town could either sell the property or use it for something like equipment storage. Council members also voted to keep their existing holiday calendar next year rather than go with a recommendation from the governor’s office. The state’s holiday calendar has several differences including observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day and setting Presidents Day in December. The calendar the town has followed for the past few years also gives town employees Christmas Eve off. Council also heard that between 50 and 80 people attended a recent food pantry in town, which could become a regular summer event beginning in May. And they heard that town trick-or-treat hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. The Claypool Lions Club will have popcorn and cider at that time, and the fire department will be open for trick-or-treaters as well.
