Why does it seem that there is always at least one or two idiots that think they have the right to impose their will upon what is a taxpayer-supported entity? The entity I am referring is the renaming of the schools located at both Claypool and Leesburg. Why does it always seem to be that these public buildings have to be named after some president?
I must admit that from all I have seen, heard and read about those who have occupied these positions, I would not name an outhouse, whether it be a one, two or even that of a Cadillac three hollers after. Although I will say that after the terrible smell most leave after occupying this office, it is probably only really the proper place for them to be named after.
Then there is the issue about renaming the Claypool School, Clay Lake. Which would be very appropriate if this school was located some where between Claypool and Silver Lake, for example close to Parkan Industries or McClures Gas Station. Which it is not. If this same school was located at Silver Lake and it was named after Silver Lake, I would not have a problem with it. After all, this would seem an appropriate name for this school to be named after the community that it resides in. Only thing is it is not located at Silver Lake, nor is between Claypool or Silver Lake, it is located a little east of Claypool. It resides on a site that has had a school on it since 1921. The same site that has not only been expanded on at least three times that I know of and maybe a couple that I don't know. Either way, there is not one person in this county by using either a state of Indiana or a county map that can't find this community. The same could be said for the Leesburg community as well.
The thing is, Mr. Editor, I cannot see any justification why anyone, no matter the political party, feel they have the right to impose their political party or any other political party's views or agenda or any political entity think they have the right to place any name of any person, whether they be a present or pass political office holder onto a public building; a public building that is bought and paid for using public taxpayer money to build and maintain it. Nowhere have I ever seen where a public building was paid for strictly by members of just one political party. When I ever see this, then that political party may name that building as they see fit. 'Til then they can keep their political views and names off of public buildings.
P.S. The community of Claypool is not Silver Lake or Clay Lake or Lake Clay, it is Claypool, located in Clay Township.
