Claypool Remembers Bob Bruce

Posted
The Claypool Town Council acknowledged the passing of Bob Bruce at Monday's meeting. Bruce was a previous Claypool Board President who died last week.

Current Board President Don Miller honored the memory of Bruce by thanking him for his 28 years of faithful service to the town of Claypool.Last August North Webster Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce began reconciling the Claypool bank accounts, which took 71 hours. The city council was under the impression Luce was assisting during her regular work hours, but according to Claypool Clerk-Treasurer Arlene Leiter, the workload was too heavy to accomplish without working after hours. The board was presented with a bill for $1,562, which the members decided to table until they have discussed the matter with Luce.

The board had to elect the next town council president. The floor was opened and Don Miller was the only candidate nominated. He was accepted as the Town Board President for 2009.

"I will try to do my duties to the best of my ability, and when it gets too tough I'll just have to resign I guess," Miller said with a laugh.

The board decided to contact Veolia Environmental Services to clarify the dumpster prices. The members were unsure what the charge would be for those who have their own dumpsters.

The salary ordinance for 2009 was reviewed and discussed by the board. The ordinance established salaries for the Claypool City Council Members, Clerk-Treasurer, employees for the town of Claypool, Indiana employees of the Claypool Municipality, Municipal Waterworks Company and the Claypool Municipal Sewage Company. After being revised, the ordinance was adopted and given to Attorney Mike Reed to be put into permanent records.

An unidentified representative from the Indiana Department of Transportation contacted the Claypool Clerk-Treasurer to request an on-site inspection for Harrison Street on Feb. 18.
