CLAYPOOL – The town of Claypool will be celebrating its 150th birthday June 16-17.
On Saturday, plans for that celebration were discussed. The planning group for the sesquicentennial celebration has been meeting since September to hammer out the details.
On Saturday, Donna Morris said on Dec. 10 the group decided to sell T-shirts for the event. Morris worked with her granddaughter-in-law to put together designs for the shirts. The group decided to put a railroad crossing on the shirt.
An ice cream social will be at the fire station from 4 to 8 p.m. June 16, handled by Free Will Baptist Church. Also on June 16, Morris said there will be a kiddie’s parade with line up at the far north end of town starting at 6 p.m.
A ball will be held downtown on June 16, possibly opening at 7 p.m. There will be a trailer and an open mic.
On June 17, there may be historical displays of the town at the Claypool United Methodist Church. It will have to be decided when the displays will be available. The church will be open June 16 for items to be dropped off for the display.
Dan Ransbottom said Echoes of the Past will have a tractor show on June 17 and could possibly stick around at the celebration until 3 p.m.
He said a shuttle could possibly be run, but he will have to discuss it at the next Echoes of the Past meeting in February.
Also on June 17, a parade will start at 11 a.m. Line up will start at 10 a.m. at Claypool Elementary. Ben Stage is in charge of the parade, Morris said.
Old photos were also looked at during the meeting of what buildings used to be. Morris said signs will be used to show event attendees the buildings then and now.
Morris said a tour of the town is being looked into, but didn’t know if it was a possibility at this point.
The planning group will continue to meet on the second Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Claypool Lions building.
