Claypool Homes Receive CFL Bulbs, Weatherization Kits

Posted
CLAYPOOL - Claypool residents will save on energy bills now that energy-efficient light bulbs and weatherization materials have been installed in the homes.

Twenty volunteers spent Saturday installing the materials in approximately 120 Claypool homes.

Volunteers included youth group members from Claypool United Methodist Church, Grace College students and Warsaw Housing Authority staff and board members."Project Bright Idea 2007" was part of Housing Opportunities of Warsaw's weatherization program.

The goal of Project Bright is to distribute compact fluorescent light bulbs to every household in each town, in two towns a year throughout Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko County has approximately 32,202 households.

If each family replaced an incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb, they would spend $830,050 less on electricity in the county over a seven-year time period, according to Pam Kennedy, HOW executive director.

Each home received four of the compact fluorescent light bulbs Saturday that use one-fourth of the electricity that an incandescent light bulb requires. Volunteers installed the light bulbs on resident's porches and in home closets and basements.

The light bulbs were funded by Wal-Mart, Warsaw, and United Way of Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko REMC and the Bertsch Family Foundation provided funds for the weatherization kits.

The weatherization kits include window and outlet covers. The materials protect from winter elements by keeping warm air in the home and cold air outside the home.

Claypool Lions Club provided lunch for the volunteers.

There was no cost for the homeowners to receive the light bulbs and weatherization materials.

Businesses or organization who wish to receive a presentation on the light bulbs or weatherization kits may call HOW at 574-269-7641.
