Claypool Finds $26k Unspent in 2014

CLAYPOOL – The town ended 2014 with an extra $26,000 in its budget, Claypool Town Council heard.
Claypool Clerk-Treasurer Connie Morgan said Monday that while looking at year-end expenses, she found that $26,000 remained unencumbered, meaning it had not been directed toward anything in the budget. Streets Superintendent Gene Warner asked if the money could be directed toward roadwork; council had discussed last year which streets it could afford to repave, and expressed hope it could find the money to do more in 2015.
Council President Niki Miller observed that the amount is close to the $24,000 the town transfered from the Economic Development Income Tax fund to cover some costs, and agreed the town might find a use for the unencumbered funds. Morgan said she will find out the deadline for allocating the money.
Also Monday, council agreed to hold the February meeting on the 17th instead of the 16th because of the Presidents’ Day holiday.
