Posted
A Claypool couple are facing drug charges after numerous tips came in to NET 43 that they were allegedly dealing drugs out of their home.

Tara Lynn Schoettmer, 32, of 303 W. Section St., Claypool, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:47 p.m. Oct. 27 and faces charges for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

John Verner Rogers Jr., 32, of the same address, was booked in KCJ at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 27 and faces the same charges as Schoettmer plus an additional Level 5 felony charge for possession of methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances for being previously convicted of dealing in methamphetamine in 2018.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, investigators with NET 43 had received numerous tips that illegal drug activity was taking place at 303 W. Section St. and that several people had also been arrested for drug charges while at the home.

At approximately 3:13 p.m. Oct. 27, police obtained a search warrant for the home that was known to be occupied by Rogers and Schoettmer. Police were also told that four juveniles lived in the residence and had received information that one child had told the Kosciusko County Probation Department that illegal drugs were inside the home.

When officers arrived, according to court papers, the people inside the residence would not open the door. Police forced entry into the home and found Rogers inside, along with three plastic bags that tested positive for methamphetamine. Inside the toilet, officers found a piece of toilet paper taped on both ends that tested positive for methamphetamine, and the toilet water also tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit. Police also located numerous smoking devices that tested positive for methamphetamine, along with a digital scale.

According to the affidavit, when police spoke with Schoettmer she admitted that she had been using methamphetamine inside the residence. When police spoke with Rogers, he also admitted that he dealt drugs from the residence and said he flushed a meth bong down the toilet last week.

According to court records, Rogers was convicted of dealing methamphetamine in Kosciusko Circuit Court April 16, 2018, and was just transitioned to probation on that case Sept. 4.

Both of their bonds were set at $5,250.
