CLAYPOOL - At Tuesday night's meeting, the Claypool Town Council approved a $5,340 quote for downtown crack sealing repairs and crosswalk painting.

Super Seal Asphalt Maintenance will complete crack sealing for $5,090 and striping for $250 downtown, including Section and Main streets. The crack sealing is yet to be completed on Noah and Rebecca streets.

The council approved a $1,490 contract with N.E.W. Plumbing and Heating to reroute a water line for the town barn.

The council also approved a $237 door jamb repair and $1,300 exhaust fan installation at the Claypool Police Department office and the evidence room, as well as summer tires for Town Marshal Ben Sanders's Durango for $612.64.

Sanders is attending Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training with a focus on drug classification and drugs' effects on mental health. This training is funded by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Josh Cox, regional operations manager at Indiana American Water (IAW), addressed the Council regarding the recent sale of the water utility. The sale was finalized March 28 and the first, short-cycle bills will go out to residents later this week.

Each resident will receive an insert on the IAW rate case proposal, their latest filing since 2018, with their bill. There will be no rate increases until January 2024.

Chris Harrison, of Commonwealth Engineers Inc., provided updates on the town's retention pond, state revolving fund form status and the K21 Health and Wellness grant status. Harrison will have a recommendation for the retention pond ready for the May meeting.

In other business:

• The town is planning a spring cleanup for the first week of May, pending options for trash and scrap metal collection.

• Utilities superintendent Danny Warner reminded the public to bring trash cans in from the street and refrain from blowing grass into the roadways.

• The Claypool Police Department responded to 161 calls for service and logged 112 reserve hours in March.

The council will next meet at 7 p.m. May 16.
