Staff Report-
Class Act Dance Troupe Inc., a non-profit performing company affiliated with Debra Collier's School of Dance, recently competed in the Cathy Roe Ultimate Dance Competition regional in Indianapolis.
Senior troupe members received high score awards for the pieces "Come Together" and "Amazing Grace" as well as nominations for a select program to be performed at the 2009 Ultimate Dance Nationals in July.
CADT member April Kuhn was honored with a special judge's award for Best Emotional Execution from all the competitions performers.
The philosophy of Cathy Roe's Ultimate Dance Competition focuses on the areas of "fostering creativity through choreography," "empowering dancers through positive reinforcement" and supporting a choreographer's artistic vision while honoring and protecting dance as an art form.
To encourage dancers and choreographers to strive to present creative and artistic pieces, the competition presents additional awards based upon entertainment, technical execution and choreography.
In addition to a high score award, members of CADT's junior troupe were honored to receive the "Dare to Be Different" award for the jazz piece "Scream." Three pieces from the competition were selected by the judges to return to the stage in a "Choreography Review" where the routines are performed again and judged strictly on choreography.
"Does Anybody Hear Her," a lyrical piece choreographed by CADT Director Tammy Seibold, was selected for the review and received first place for choreography.
Class Act Dance Troupe provides students with additional opportunities to utilize their dance training and develop their abilities through the creative outlets of performance events and community involvement, while fostering self-esteem, confidence and a sense of achievement.
