Warsaw City Council will review six areas in the city that have been identified as proposed deer nuisance zones.
Warsaw Deer Task Force met for an hour Tuesday night at Warsaw Police Department to discuss nuisance zones to recommend the council approve.
Jeff Grose, Deer Task Force chair, said the council at its Aug. 16 meeting will review the proposed nuisance zones.
Grose said the council will need to approve the nuisance zones and a resolution before the nuisance zones are approved as reduction zones. Property owners input also will be sought.
At this point the proposed nuisance zones are not reduction zones, Grose said.
If the council approves another reduction effort, it will be the fourth year for one.
There were 39 deer harvested during last year's reduction efforts, and 53 archers participated.
The deer task force is proposing six nuisance zones for a proposed 2010-2011 hunt, of which two are new proposed nuisance zones.
The bag limit for the urban zones is four antlerless deer, or three antlerless deer and one deer of either sex within an urban zone.
The hunting season is Sept. 15-Nov. 28 and Dec. 4-Jan. 2.
The two new nuisance zones being proposed are district two, the wooded areas behind Boggs Industrial Park, Zimmer and the former Madison School area, and district six in the wooded area in Hire Park, southwest of Pike Lake.
Additional nuisance zones being proposed that have been hunted in previous years are district one, Spring Hill/Kosciusko Community Hospital area; district three, Rozella Road/Warsaw Community High School/Logan Street area; district four, Country Club area; and district five, Hidden Lake area behind Smith Tire along Ind. 15N.
The 2010-2011 Deer Task Force membership includes Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Warsaw Police Chief Scott Whitaker, councilmen Grose, Joe Thallemer and George Clemens, and Matt Dick, Steve Foster, Dan Smith, Randy Denney and Larry Downs.
The Animal Nuisance Management Committee includes Wiggins, Whitaker, Grose, Dick and Foster.
The deer task force has set training dates for archers interested in participating in this year's proposed deer-reduction efforts.
Those interested in participating in efforts will be required to complete a proficiency tests and attend a training session on the history and rules of the program.
The training dates are Aug. 17 and 21 and will be at Warsaw Police Department, 2191 E. Fort Wayne St.
Archers who have previously participated in reduction efforts and are interested in participating in this year's proposed efforts are required to complete training at WPD on either Aug. 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. or Aug. 21 from 1-2:30 p.m.
Archers who are interested in participating in the efforts for the first time and are new to the efforts are required to complete training Aug. 21 from 1:45-6 p.m. at WPD.
Applications and information on the hunt can be obtained on the city's website at www.warsaw.in.gov or at WPD.
