City To Review Sewage Fee Increase

Posted
Warsaw City Council will review at its meeting tonight a sewage fee increase for Warsaw residents.

The council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at city hall.

The city approved at its April 7 meeting on first reading an ordinance that proposes to increase the city sewer fee by $1.80 to cover the city's sewage system. The proposed ordinance states the rates and charges for all dwelling units, including single family, duplexes, apartments, condominiums and mobile home courts will be $32.60 per month, a $1.80 increase over the current $30.80.

The council also will review a request for an ordinance issuing sewage work revenue bonds in order to pay for the cost of the project not to exceed $3,375,00

The council approved the ordinance on first reading at its April 7 meeting.

The improvements include the acquisition, construction, and installation of necessary improvements and extensions to the city's sewage works.

The improvements will include building a new laboratory and administration building at the wastewater plant, 2056 N. CR 150W, of approximately 3,200 square feet; installing new sanitary and storm sewers along Country Club Drive South, and a 48-inch diameter storage pipe along with associated inlet and outlet structures for combined sewer overflow abatement.

The project also will include the installation of a gravity sewer and flow meter along Ind. 15 and a biosolids storage addition consisting of an approximately 50-foot extension of the sludge storage building at the wastewater plant.

The current sewer rates and charges for services do not provide sufficient money for the operation, maintenance and financing of the projects.

An increase of sewer rates and charges would need to be provided to accomplish the projects, according to Todd Samuelson, Umbaugh & Associates, Plymouth.

In other business, the council will review an ordinance request for a sanitary sewage treatment agreement with Leesburg.

Leesburg Town Council at its May 12 meeting approved authorizing a sanitary sewer agreement between Leesburg and Warsaw.
