City Recognizes Longtime Fireman

For 34 years, Lee Hartle was always there to answer the call for help.

Monday night, Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins, the city council and friends and family returned the favor to the career fireman, recognizing a lifetime of service.

"Lee is the longest serving fireman in the city's history," Wiggins said. "We're here tonight to recognize Lee for that service."

Wiggins was joined by Fire Chief Ken Shepherd, who said Hartle was an inspirational mentor for him.

"You led me and you taught me," Sheperd said. "For that, I thank you."

Wiggins presented Hartle with a commemorative plaque in honor of the occasion.

In other business, city planner Jeff Noffsinger announced the first city annexation under the new state law.

The annexation of 94 acres north of U.S. 30 will extend Corridor Drive from CR 250E, east to the Car Company Auto Sales.

"This annexation is supported by 67 percent of the property owners, with 54 percent of the assessed value, so there should be no problem with getting this done," Noffsinger said. "But under the new law we still have to allow 90 days before we can have a public hearing."

The public hearing on the annexation is scheduled for Dec. 20, he added.
