City Provides Flooding Tips

Posted
The City of Warsaw would like to remind residents and businesses that as warmer temperatures come and snow begins to melt, some areas have the potential for flooding.
Temperatures for this week are predicted to be well above freezing. Keeping storm drains free from debris and snow will play an important role in reducing that risk, according to Theresa Sailor, Warsaw storm water utility coordinator.
The Public Works Department has been  clearing storm inlets so water can enter the storm sewer. However, with 1,154 inlets, the Public Works Department will not be able to clear them all.
If people are experiencing flooding and are aware of storm inlets that are snow covered, they can call the Public Works Department at 574-372-9561. If residents are able, they can clear the snow off of the top of the inlet to facilitate drainage.
Residents and businesses should also be aware that the ground has frozen deeper than usual this winter.
Buildings with sump pits and pumps should make sure those lines have not frozen and the water has a clear path to travel. It would also be advisable to make sure your sump pump is operational to avoid basement flooding, according to the release.
