Warsaw City Council Monday approved a resolution to transfer funds to pay Warsaw's fire and police pension funds.

Warsaw Clerk-Treasurer Elaine Call said the state agreed a couple of years ago to pay for the pensions, but the amount it has reimbursed the city for is falling behind this year, so there has been a shortfall. The council unanimously approved the resolution that will allow a loan to the pension fund from the city's general fund.

There will be $1,700 transferred from the general fund to the fire pension fund, and $6,600 transferred from the general fund to the police pension fund.

The loan will be necessary through Jan. 31 until the county's distribution for city and county combined services is received, Call said.
