City OKs Cemetery, Human Resources Ordinances

Posted
Warsaw City Council Monday night approved ordinances for the cemetery and human resources.
The council approved $2,000 to be transferred for John Kimpel, Kimpel & Associates, to install 100-foot stakes for lot markers for the new section of the cemetery.
Hal Heagy, cemetery sexton, made the request Monday night for the transfer. Elaine Call made the motion, seconded by Jerry Frush.
In other business, the council approved a request from Jennifer Whitaker, human resources director, to amend the salary ordinance.
This will allow the existing part-time human resources administrative assistant to serve as an administrative assistant for the mayor’s office on an as-needed basis to fill in for the mayor’s secretary when she is on vacation. Jeff Grose made the motion, seconded by Charlie Smith.
The council reviewed a proposed sewage works refunding bond.
At the council’s June 17 meeting it will review an ordinance to refinance the bonds. The council will have the opportunity to discuss two options to keep the rate the same and shorten the year to pay off the bond or to keep the 10-year refinancing bond term.
Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer informed the council that Ball State University students visited Warsaw last week to tour the Gatke and Little Crow properties and walked Market Street.
The Builders Association, Young Adult Professionals, Warsaw Newcomers, OrthoWorx, Ministerial Association, and Fair Board will be interviewed by Ball State students for uses for the properties.
Council members Mike Klondaris, Grose and Diane Quance will meet June 19 to be interviewed by the Ball State students.
Smith, Cindy Dobbins, Frush and Call will meet June 21 at city hall to be interviewed.
A bicycling safety class open to the community is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Warsaw Police Department, 2191 E. Fort Wayne St. The cost is $20 and includes a student manual.
The class is for anyone over age 14 who has a bike and helmet.
