Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday approved landlords of two Warsaw apartment complexes being required to pay unbilled sewage bills. During Friday’s meeting, Mary Lou Plummer, Warsaw Wastewater Payment Office manager, said the department found that two apartment complexes, Briar Ridge Apartments and Eastgate Apartments, were not billed the correct amounts for the number of apartments they have. Board member Charlie Smith made the motion to require the landlords of both apartment complexes to backbill the sewage bills with payments being made in no less than a year, seconded by Jeff Grose. The wastewater department billed Briar Ridge Apartment complex for 139 units when they have 151 units. The 12 apartment buildings that have not been billed were completed in October 2012. The total for 12 months unbilled is $4,694.40. There are 86 apartments in the Eastgate Apartment complex and the city billed only 76 units as far back as 2000. There is $23,238 that was unbilled. Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said in the future the city will require a signature line to be on an occupancy permit that will need to be signed off by the wastewater department. This will prove the unit is occupied.
