Charges of battery were filed against a city official this week, resulting in his arrest.
Street department superintendent Kim Leake, 44, of 2641 E. Pine Drive, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2 p.m. Thursday on two misdemeanor counts of battery. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
Indiana State Police investigated two incidents in which Leake allegedly battered his wife, Linda - one in May and one in July. On both occasions, Leake was reportedly intoxicated and began pushing her around, according to a probably cause affidavit filed Kosciusko Superior Court II.
In the May incident, Linda Leake suffered a fractured tailbone after Kim allegedly picked her up in a "cradle position" and took her to the front door and dropped her on the floor, hitting with her tailbone first, then her head. In an ISP report, Linda Leake said that she "immediately felt pain and tried to escape, but could not move."
X-rays taken the next morning revealed the fracture.
In the July incident, Kim allegedly pulled Linda from the bed by her ankles and dragged her across the floor and down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, he allegedly stood over her and choked her.
When she tried to reach the telephone to call for help, Kim reportedly tried to knock the telephone away and struck an oil lamp, seriously cutting his arm.
Linda summoned an ambulance for Kim and dressed in clothing to cover the injuries reportedly inflicted during this confrontation. She reportedly suffered rug burns and bruises to her arms and elbows, injuries to her back and knee and choke marks around her neck.
These incidents could have an effect on Leake's career; an executive session of the Warsaw Board of Works is expected to be held early next week, and issues regarding Leake will likely be discussed. Included in Linda Leake's statement to police was an accusation that Kim Leake routinely drives his city vehicle while intoxicated.
