The City of Lakes Festival will occupy Warsaw's downtown streets Friday and Saturday, a change in location from Central Park.
The event features a lot of things for children to do at no charge, including a city-block full of games, inflatables and a train ride, according to Warsaw Community Development Corp. Executive Director Carmen Lock.
The fun begins at 11 a.m. through 9 p.m., when the kids' area opens on Buffalo Street, food vendors set out their offerings on South Buffalo Street and crafters and vendors pitch their tents along Center Street at the Kosciusko County Courthouse.
Emanon, a swing band, will play at 11 a.m. on the Center Street and Buffalo Street intersection stage.
In the afternoon, Warsaw Community Public Library will sponsor a story time on the stage at 2 p.m. and there will be live entertainment on stage from 3 to 5 p.m.; a taekwondo demonstration from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
National City Bank is sponsoring a watermelon feast in their Center Street parking lot, with a watermelon seed spitting contest beginning at 5:30 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., local rock 'n' roll group Random Play performs to start the Classic Rock Concert in Central Park. At 7:30 p.m., Mark Farner, the voice of Grand Funk Railroad, begins to play.
On Saturday, early birds may attend the fly-in breakfast at Warsaw's Municipal Airport.
The Cubmobile Race on Indiana Street is at 8 a.m.
Registration for the big wheel race begins at the stage area, with the race at 9 a.m.
Also at 9 a.m. is the three-on-three basketball tournament between Market and Buffalo streets.
At 10 a.m. there will be live entertainment on stage followed by the 11 a.m. downtown parade.
In the afternoon the stage will be filled with family entertainment at noon; Deb Collier's Dance School students at 1:30 p.m.; Caudill's Taekwondo demonstration from 2:30 to 3 p.m.; and local band Flashbacks performs at 3 p.m.
Also at 2, 3:30 and 5 p.m. there are ski shows on Hidden Lake (turn west on Ind. 15, behind Smith Tire).
At 8 p.m., the First Presbyterian Church is sponsoring an appearance by the Paul Coleman Trio in Central Park.
The Fourth Annual Warsaw Community Singspiration is Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Central Park Plaza, the last event for the City Of Lakes Festival. The community singspiration features soloists, groups and musicians from area churches and is sponsored by the Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association.
