City Launches Dial-a-Dumpster

Posted

Warsaw’s Dial-a-Dumpster program begins Friday.

Dial-a-Dumpster is a program the city offers to homeowners.

To participate in the program, residents are advised to call the Department of Public Works at 574-372-9561.

People can ask to have a 2-cubic-yard dumpster dropped off at their home.

Usually, the dumpster is dropped off on Friday to accommodate a “weekend clean-up” and picked up on Monday.

People may request other weekdays for pickup as well. There is no charge for the dumpster.

“The purpose of the program is to encourage the removal of trash that has accumulated over time either inside or outside your home,” Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said.

Thallemer said as homeowners take pride in their properties, neighborhoods improve.

The program is for owner-occupied dwellings only.

Items not accepted in the program are appliances containing freon, tires, televisions, electronics, household hazardous chemicals and paint because the landfill prohibits dumping these items.

People who have a yard project and need to get rid of bushes or brush can take part in a Dial-a-Truck program that operates similar to the dumpster program.

A smaller one-ton or larger eight-ton pickup truck will be delivered to the homeowner’s occupied residence at no charge. Brush, limbs, yard debris and other materials that can be composted are appropriate for Dial-a-Truck.
