City Hears Tech Park Update

Posted
Warsaw City Council Monday heard an update on a technology park that is currently under construction.
Jeremy Skinner, city planner, said a lot of work has been going on in the park that is north of Ivy Tech.
Curbs will be laid today and a road will be created. The 62,000-square-foot shell building is under construction, and there will be a walking path that will connect to Ivy Tech. The building will be used for industries.
There will be a ribbon cutting this month once the road is opened.
“We are proud of the work the council has done to get that property annexed to expand the TIF district for the certified technology park,” Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said.
There are now four shovel-ready sites and a tech park shell building.
Charlie Smith, city councilman, said the tech park will attract businesses to the community.
“Wealth and jobs provide employment, and that money provides a better way of living, more police and fire protection and better streets, roadways and bike paths,” Smith said.
Thallemer said the city recognized a need for available land and shovel-ready sites.
“We’ve lost prospective businesses because we don’t have shovel-ready sites,” Thallemer said. “I’m proud of the council and redevelopment commission working to get this done.”
In other business, Deer Task Force chair Jeff Grose informed the council there have been 19 deer harvested in the city’s deer reduction effort.
Diane Quance, council president, thanked the street department for their leaf pickup efforts.
