City Council Makes Board Appointments For 2000

Posted

Board appointments were the first task of the Warsaw City Council Wednesday.

Before they got to board appointments, however, their first task was to appoint a president for the council, but the council split on who the council president should be.

Councilman Charlie Smith said that because Paul Siebenmorgen and Jerry Patterson were the only returning councilmen, one of them should be president. Smith nominated Siebenmorgen.

Joe Thallemer nominated Jerry Patterson. Trish Brown seconded.

No one seconded Siebenmorgen's nomination, but Mayor Ernie Wiggins said he wasn't certain if a second was actually needed on nominations for council president.

Voting for Patterson for council president were councilmen Bill Rhoades, Jeff Grose, Brown and Thallemer. Siebenmorgen received votes from Smith, Patterson and himself.

In the mayor's absence, a Warsaw Board of Works member acts as mayor. The city council president is next in line. The council president also runs the council meetings if Wiggins is not present.

In appointments, Brown was appointed to the Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals, Oakwood Cemetery Regency and the traffic commission. Thallemer was named to the plan commission and Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District. Grose was approved to serve on the parks and recreation board and the plan commission. Smith will serve on the aviation board and redevelopment commission.

Siebenmorgen will be on the board of works, Kosciusko County Economic Development Commission and the Warsaw Community Development Corp.

Patterson will serve on the board of works with Siebenmorgen and also was appointed to the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Rhoades will serve on the traffic commission, the Warsaw Housing Authority and as a utility liaison.

Wiggins' appointments include: Bill Baldwin, Lacey Francis Jr., Rick Keeven, Dewey Lawshe, plan commission; George White, aviation board; Lewis Dobbins, Oakwood Cemetery Regency; Toby Sumpter, park and recreation board; Bob Steele, redevelopment commission; Dennis Cultice, Warsaw Housing Authority; Leigh Ann Denlinger, Rick Keeven, board of zoning appeals; and Neal Carlson, Jerome Kralis, Tammy Rockey, redevelopment commission. Wiggins still has an appointment to make to the BZA as Dick Witt decided not to continue serving on the board.

The economic development commission will have its first meeting Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.

At the 11 a.m. Warsaw Board of Works meeting Friday, bids will be opened for the Logan Street sewer interception project.

The Warsaw City Council meets on the third Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in the council chambers. The council will hold a special meeting Jan. 20.

Members of the Warsaw City Council include Brown, Thallemer, Grose, Smith, Siebenmorgen, Patterson and Rhoades.
