City Council Approves Budget Reductions

Warsaw City Council Monday approved  reductions to the 2014 budget.
Reductions include: general, $245,400; aviation, $11,500; cemetery, $7,400; park and recreation, $64,300; fire territory, $75,475; mayor general fund, $2,500; mayor communication and travel, $3,700; salary and wages, $9,000; health insurance, $1,200; office supplies, $800; and professional services, $1,000.
Other reductions in the clerk general fund budget include unemployment, $1,500; PERF, $$2,000; health insurance, $3,200; communications and travel, $2,500; and repairs and maintenance, $2,800.
Common council general fund budget reductions include health insurance, $6,700; professional services, $25,000; and property and casualty insurance, $30,000.
Police reductions include police salaries, $4,000; police insurance, $3,500; police office supplies, $2,000; repair and maintenance supplies, $3,500; police other supplies, $4,000; and utilities, $3,000.
Street department reductions include FICA, $13,000; insurance, $79,000; PERF, $6,000; rental, $4,000; and other, $17,000.
Building and planning reductions include communication and transportation, $2,000; printing and advertising, $1,000; dues, $2,500; unemployment, $2,000; office supplies, $1,000; other, $5,000; capital, $5,000; and insurance, $1,000.
Aviation general fund reductions include insurance $1,500, and aviation professional services, $10,000.
Oakwood Cemetery reductions include  salaries, $2,000; insurance, $2,900; and unemployment, $2,500.
Park reductions include salaries, $40,000; health insurance, $1,300; park utilities, $20,000; and park rentals, $3,000.
The council also approved salary ordinances for 2015 on second reading.
The council approved bi-weekly salaries of aviation manager, $1,742.24; building department engineer, $4,230; cemetery sexton, $1,924.30; deputy clerk treasurer, $1,756.85; human resources director, $2,007.77; mayor’s assistant, $1,645.70; parks and recreation superintendent, $2,208.58; city planner, $2,279.53; police chief, $2,255.07; street superintendent, $2,456.62; and stormwater utility manager, $2,543.58.
The fire chief’s salary was approved at $2,255.07 bi-weekly; mayor’s salary at $2,523.64; and clerk-treasurer’s salary at $2,151.30.
The council approved an ordinance for the 2015 budget, The general fund was approved at $10,707,559.
